Location: christmas creek airstrip, WA
Size: 25m x 25m ptdome

Fortescue Metals Group expansion of the Chichester Hub has seen significant iron ore mining, processing, crushing and transport plant and infrastructure works commence, including a new airstrip at Christmas Creek.

Serving up to 8 flights per day when operational, the airstrip will be a key transfer point for 'fly in fly out' mine staff and contractors.

A 25m x 25m ptdome was selected to accommodate large people numbers in transit, in comfort, and protect them from some of the harshest climatic conditions in Australia.  As well as being practical and cost effective, the ptdome visually reflects Fortescue's positive approach to innovation, ideas, technology and people.

Building in such a remote location presents a unique set of challenges.  ptdome's safe and fast methodology for installation has been specifically developed for such a demanding environment.  Fully containerised, the post-tensioned ptdome solution was assembled, clad and lifted largely by hand, had electrical services fitted in the roof while at ground level, and was completed in 7 days.
