Much of South Eastern Queensland was devastated by floods in early 2011. Ipswich State High School suffered badly, with extensive damage to classrooms and drastic loss of equipment and materials.
As part of the rebuilding process, ptdome was chosen to not only provide infrastructure improvements in the school grounds but to also be a unique learning tool as part of the students preparation for life after school.
Year 11 and 12 industrial technology and design students were invited to be actively involved in the project and gained valuable insight in areas of project planning, site management and OH+S, structural engineering and design, geotechnical sciences, construction and post-tensioning.
The ptdome itself was assembled, clad and erected without cranes in 5 working days once the four foundations were placed, during what was effectively a 2 week program.
